Kohima is best known as the site of the 1944 Battle of Kohima, a turning point of the Second World War in the Eastern theatre, commemorated at the Kohima War Cemetery. The city also anchors nearby Naga heritage villages and is the staging point for the annual Hornbill Festival at Kisama.
