Nagaland

Sixteen major tribes, dramatic ridge-top villages and the exuberant Hornbill Festival.

Nagaland is home to sixteen major recognised tribes, each with its own dialect, textile patterns and festival calendar, spread across dramatic ridge-top villages overlooking the Naga Hills. The state's living traditions — morungs, log drums, warrior architecture — are most visible each December at the Hornbill Festival in Kisama.
